Mumbai, Mar 2: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Monday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to leverage his global stature as a “Vishwaguru” and actively work to halt the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel following the joint US-Israel strike on Tehran that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Addressing the media in Mumbai, Raut said that if former US President Donald Trump could claim to mediate and stop tensions between India and Pakistan, then Modi should similarly step forward to end the Middle East crisis.
“If President Trump can prevent a war between India and Pakistan, then Modi ji, being projected as a world leader and a ‘Vishwaguru’, should intervene to stop the war between Iran and Israel,” Raut stated. “He should call on his allies and insist that the hostilities must end.”
Raut also called on the Indian government to officially express condolences for Khamenei’s death, describing him as a longstanding friend of India who had supported the country during previous crises, including conflicts with Pakistan.
“Iran’s Supreme Leader was respected globally, except by Israel. He was a true friend of India. In times of crisis be it India-Pakistan wars or the Kashmir issue Iran stood with India. Such a leader’s assassination deserves an official expression of grief from our Prime Minister and President,” Raut said.
The escalating Israel-Iran conflict has triggered global uncertainty, with markets, shipping, aviation, and oil sectors reacting sharply amid fears of prolonged military confrontation in the region.
