Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 27: The State Election Commission (SEC) on Wednesday ordered the removal of the “IPS” designation from the campaign posters of former DGP R Sreelekha, the BJP candidate contesting from the Sasthamangalam ward in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation elections.
The directive came after AAP candidate T. S. Rashmi filed a complaint arguing that using the “IPS” title after retirement violated election rules. Acting on the complaint, the SEC instructed the BJP to remove the tag from all campaign materials.
Following the order, BJP workers modified posters across the ward, replacing the original label with the revised wording: “Sreelekha, retired IPS.”
Sreelekha, who served as Director General of Police before retiring, is being projected as the BJP’s mayoral candidate for the Corporation.
Reacting to the controversy, she said the change would have no impact on her campaign. “Everyone knows me,” she remarked.
