Jammu: Security forces launched a large-scale search operation in several forward villages of Samba district on Saturday after a suspected Pakistani drone was spotted crossing the International Border and briefly hovering over Indian territory, officials said.
According to authorities, the drone was seen late Friday night over the villages of Kandral, Abtal and Bahadurpur in the Ramgarh sector. The aerial movement lasted only a few minutes but prompted heightened security measures in the border region.
The area remained under strict surveillance overnight, and search operations began at first light to check whether any weapons, narcotics or other contraband had been air-dropped from across the border.
The development comes days after security agencies recovered more than 3.5 kilograms of heroin worth over ₹20 crore in the international market in villages near R. S. Pura sector. Officials said the consignment had allegedly been dropped by drones in the border belt.
In connection with the latest seizure in the R. S. Pura area on Friday, two suspected narcotics smugglers were detained for questioning as investigators probe possible cross-border smuggling networks.
Security forces continue to comb the villages and surrounding fields in Samba district to rule out any fresh drone-dropped consignments and to strengthen border vigilance.
