Tragic Loss: Agniveer Dies from Self-Inflicted Injury Along LoC in Rajouri, Indian Army Conducts Inquiry

14-10-2023 : A tragic incident occurred along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, where a recently inducted Agniveer, Amritpal Singh, lost his life due to what has been described as a ‘self-inflicted gunshot injury.’ The Indian Army confirmed this unfortunate incident, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding his demise.

Agniveer Amritpal Singh was found at a forward post with a bullet injury, leading to a comprehensive inquiry into the matter. As per the official statement released by the Army’s Jammu-based White Knight Corps, the incident transpired while Agniveer Amritpal Singh was on sentry duty in the Rajouri Sector. The specific details and reasons behind this tragic occurrence are still under investigation through a Court of Inquiry.

In an empathetic and considerate move, the Indian Army arranged for the mortal remains of the deceased Agniveer to be transported to his hometown. This was carried out with the utmost respect and dignity, with a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and four other ranks accompanying the remains throughout the journey. These Army personnel also participated in the final rites and paid their respects to their fallen comrade.

As per established policies, and given the nature of the incident as a self-inflicted injury, no formal guard of honor or military funeral was arranged. This approach is consistent with the existing guidelines and practices in such cases.

The Indian Army expressed its deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to the grieving family in a post, acknowledging the loss of Agniveer Amritpal Singh, a dedicated and recently inducted member.
