‘Sentimental Value’ Dominates European Film Awards, Wins Best Film, Director, and Acting Honors

Joachim Trier’s film wins Best European Film, Director, Screenplay, and both leading acting awards Alice Rohrwacher honoured for global cinema contribution

Berlin, Jan 18: The 38th European Film Awards in Berlin turned into a night to remember for Joachim Trier’s ‘Sentimental Value’, which emerged as the evening’s biggest winner. The film captured the Best European Film award, while Trier also won Best Director. The screenplay, co-written with Eskil Vogt, earned the Best Screenplay prize.

The acting categories mirrored the film’s success: Stellan Skarsgård won Best European Actor, and Renate Reinsve took home Best European Actress, marking a rare double acting victory for a single film. Adding to the accolades, Hania Rani won Best Score for her work on the film.

Spain’s Oscar entry ‘Sirat’, directed by Oliver Laxe, also made its mark by winning multiple technical awards, including Best Production Design, Sound Design, Editing, Cinematography, and the inaugural Best Casting Award. Germany’s ‘Sound of Falling’ received Best European Costume Design, while Ugo Bienvenu’s ‘Arco’ won Best Animated Feature Film. Torsten Witte made history by winning the first-ever Hair and Make-Up EFA for Bugonia.

In a highlight of the evening, Italian filmmaker Alice Rohrwacher was honoured with the European Achievement in World Cinema Award for her enduring contribution to global cinema, with films like La Chimera, Futura, and Happy as Lazzaro.
