NEW DELHI, Sept 10: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday held talks with Prince Rahim Aga Khan V, the 50th Imam of the Ismaili Muslims, focusing on areas including social development, irrigation, cooperatives, natural farming and solar energy.
Shah said India values its longstanding association with the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), a global non-profit organisation headed by Prince Rahim Aga Khan V.
In a post on X, the Home Minister said the meeting focused on expanding collaboration in social development, irrigation, cooperative initiatives, natural farming, including millets, and solar energy.
He said both sides reaffirmed their commitment to advancing these areas of partnership in support of sustainable development and the broader welfare of humanity.
Prince Rahim Aga Khan V had earlier met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President C P Radhakrishnan during his ongoing visit to India.
He arrived in the country on September 9 following an invitation from the Vice President and is scheduled to remain in India until September 15.
During his visit, he is also expected to travel to Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Hyderabad, where the AKDN is engaged in a range of development and community oriented initiatives.
The organisation has been active in India since 1978, contributing to development programmes across several sectors.
The current visit is significant as it marks Prince Rahim Aga Khan V’s first trip to India since he became the 50th Imam of the Ismaili community.
