NEW DELHI, Aug 12: Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said the government was willing to discuss all issues in Parliament, including the ongoing students’ protests, and urged the opposition to cooperate in allowing proceedings to continue.
Speaking to reporters in the Parliament House complex, Shah said the government was ready for a discussion and that he would respond to the issues raised during the debate.
The Home Minister asked opposition parties to submit a written notice to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla by 2 pm to facilitate the proposed discussion.
Shah said that if the notice was submitted within the stipulated time, the debate could begin at 3 pm on Wednesday and continue until 3 pm the following day.
He also said he would respond to the debate at 3 pm on Thursday, offering the government an opportunity to present its position on the concerns surrounding the student protests.
” We are ready to discuss all the issues in Parliament, including students’ protests; let the House function,” Shah said.
The government’s offer comes amid disruptions in Parliament, with opposition parties pressing for discussion on issues concerning students and their protests.
Shah’s statement sought to signal the government’s willingness to engage on the matter through parliamentary proceedings while calling for the smooth functioning of the House.
The proposed extended debate would provide members from both the treasury and opposition benches an opportunity to raise their concerns and put their positions on record.
