Shamli, Oct 24: A wanted criminal, Faisal, carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh, was shot dead in an encounter with the police and the Special Operations Group (SOG) on Friday, officials said. Faisal, a known shooter linked to the notorious Sanjeev Jeeva gang, was involved in planning a robbery on Vedkhedi Road.
The encounter unfolded in the Bhogimajra forest area after police received a tip off regarding the gang’s activities. Acting on the intelligence, a joint team from Jhinjhana police station and the SOG surrounded the suspects. When authorities closed in, the criminals opened fire, prompting the police to retaliate.
Faisal was critically injured during the exchange and later declared dead at a nearby hospital. SOG constable Deepak Nirwan sustained a bullet injury and is currently receiving treatment. One of Faisal’s accomplices managed to flee, and police have launched a combing operation to apprehend the fugitive.
At the scene, authorities recovered two motorcycles, two pistols, live cartridges, and spent shells. Senior police officials visited the encounter site to inspect the area and assess the injured officer’s condition. Security measures in the region have been intensified to maintain law and order.
