New Delhi, Aug 08 : Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur and actor Jugal Hansraj are set to reunite for Masoom: The Next Generation, a spiritual sequel to Kapur’s acclaimed 1983 family drama Masoom.
The upcoming project will bring back several familiar faces from the original film, with veterans Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi confirmed to reprise their respective roles. Jugal Hansraj, who made his acting debut as Rahul in the original, will also return to the story.
Hansraj’s performance as the young son whose arrival changes the dynamics of a family became one of the memorable aspects of the original film. His return decades later marks an emotional reunion with the filmmaker who introduced him to cinema.
Kapur described the reunion as a deeply personal moment, saying that returning to a story that has remained in audiences’ hearts for decades carries a special significance.
The new film will retain the emotional foundation of its predecessor while examining contemporary family relationships, identity and changing dynamics between generations.
The cast will also include Manoj Bajpayee, Nithya Menen, Vivaan Shah and Kaveri Kapur, Shekhar Kapur’s daughter.
Adding to the project’s appeal, Oscar winning composer A R Rahman has joined the film as music composer and co-producer.
The reunion of Kapur, Hansraj, Shah and Azmi has generated considerable interest among audiences familiar with the original film, while the new ensemble is expected to introduce the story to a younger generation.
