New Delhi, Feb 25: Former India cricketer Shikhar Dhawan secured a legal victory as a Delhi family court ordered his ex-wife, Aesha Mukerji, to return Rs 5.7 crore (approx. 894,397 AUD), ruling that the property settlement between them was executed under extortion and fraudulent practices.
Judge Devender Kumar Garg of the Patiala House Court held that all documents signed by Dhawan in connection with the financial settlement were null and void. The court found that the agreements had been made under threats, coercion, and deceptive actions.
Additionally, Mukerji was directed to pay 9% annual interest on the Rs 5.7 crore from the date Dhawan filed the suit. The court also noted that the Australian courts did not have jurisdiction over the marital disputes between the former couple.
This verdict marks a significant win for Dhawan, reaffirming the enforceability of legal protections against coercion and fraudulent agreements in marital property matters.
