Mumbai, Sep 26: Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty Kundra has strongly denied reports claiming she received Rs 15 crore from her husband, Raj Kundra, nearly a decade ago. The alleged amount, said to be under investigation by the Economic Offence Wing (EOW), was reportedly part of a larger Rs 60 crore fraud, which the media linked to a company associated with Shilpa Shetty.
The actress’ lawyer, Prashant Patil, described the reports as “completely false and mischievous,” stating that Shilpa has been forced to take legal action to protect her reputation. “No such amount was ever received by Mrs. Shilpa Shetty Kundra. This information is totally fake and has been intentionally planted to defame my client,” he said.
Patil added that the legal team will pursue criminal and civil action against media outlets that circulated these unverified stories. He emphasized that Shilpa has consistently cooperated with investigation agencies but stressed that false reporting infringes on her fundamental rights.
The controversy follows a complaint by businessman Deepak Kothari, director of Lotus Capital Financial Services, alleging that Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra defrauded him of Rs 60.48 crore between 2015 and 2023 through a now-defunct company. Patil confirmed that the matter is subjudice and any defamatory articles will face legal consequences in the Bombay High Court.
