Shiv Sena protest, slams Traffic Police over rising jam on city roads

Seeks improvement in traffic system, offers voluntary services to streamline traffic

JAMMU: Due to the worst traffic scenario in Smart City Jammu, the journey of minutes have completed in hours. Instead of improving the present scenario, the traffic personnel deployed on roads are busy in issuing Challans as mute spectators.
This was stated by Manish Sahni, President Shiv Sena Jammu and Kashmir.
Scores of Shiv Sena activists under the chairmanship of Manish Sahni assembled near Party’s central office today and staged a vigorous protest at Channi Chowk, demanding improvement in the traffic system.
Talking to reporters, Sahni said that the traffic jam in Jammu has become a disaster for the general public. “There is no intersection and road in the city where there is no traffic jam, after the shortage of electricity and water supply in Jammu, which is called Smart City, the traffic system has completely broken down.”
After the installation of intelligent traffic lights, the traffic personnel remain absent from the roads, only few of them were seen on roads and they have also become mute spectators merely cutting Challans.
“The signal lights installed at most of the intersections have been damaged or switched off. In the name of Smart City, the narrow roads of Jammu city have been converted into parking lots,” he added.
Sahni asserted that the economic burden on the public is increasing due to excessive wastage of expensive diesel and petrol due to which vehicles are crawling on roads. In emergency, people are facing huge problems due to jam.
On the road going from Jammu Railway Station to Channi, there is a jam like situation throughout the day due to the vehicles parked outside the tuition center on the main road. On the other hand, the public is troubled by the jam throughout the day due to the construction of smart parking on the road outside Jammu’s Super Specialist Hospital and the cinema hall built near it.
Sahni asked the higher officials of the traffic department to pay attention to improve the present traffic scenario. He also offered voluntary service of Shiv Sainiks during peak hours to streamline the traffic system if the Traffic Department fails to improve the traffic jam.
Among those who were present were President Women’s Wing Meenakshi Chhibber, General Secretary Vikas Bakshi, President Kamgar Wing Raj Singh, Prabari  Ashwini Prabhakar, Shashipal, Anshu, Muhammad Ashraf Khande, Vishal Verma and many others.
