Sikh United Front condemns attack on Farooq Abdullah, seeks thorough probe and stronger security

Manjit Singh GK, Sikh leaders express solidarity with Farooq Abdullah and condemn attack in strongest terms

Jammu, 13-03-2026: While addressing a press conference, Sudershan Singh Wazir, chairman of the Sikh United Front J&K, along with various Sikh organizations in J&K strongly condemned the attempted attack on Dr Farooq Abdullah. He said that Farooq Abdullah is not only a prominent leader of Jammu & Kashmir but also a respected political figure at the national and international level. Any attempt to carry out a deadly attack on such a senior leader is extremely alarming and deserves the strongest condemnation. He said that Dr. Farooq Abdullah belongs to the family of the late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, who in 1947 took the historic decision that Jammu & Kashmir would stand with India and not with Pakistan. At a time when Pakistani tribal invaders attacked the region, Sheikh Abdullah stood firmly with India and played a significant role in safeguarding the interests of the nation.

Mr Wazir further stated that the Abdullah family has consistently raised its voice at the international level for the people of Jammu & Kashmir. The legacy of Sheikh Abdullah has always stood for unity among all communities—Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs and others—and for maintaining communal harmony in society. He added that this legacy is being carried forward today by Dr. Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah. Their leadership has always worked for the welfare of all sections of society, particularly minorities. The National Conference has also maintained a strong and respectful relationship with minority communities, including the Sikh community. Mr. Wazir emphasized that Dr. Farooq Abdullah has always been regarded as one of the strongest supporters and well-wishers of minorities. Therefore, any attempt on his life is extremely concerning and reflects a dangerous and intolerant mindset. He also said that such incidents remind us that the ideology of Nathuram Godse, still exists in certain sections of society and must be strongly opposed.

Mr. Wazir, along with various Sikh organisations, demanded a thorough investigation into the incident to identify the individuals and forces involved behind the attempted attack. At the same time, he said we have two demands one is that a proper security audit be conducted for Dr. Farooq Abdullah and all leaders who may face threats to their lives, and that their security arrangements be strengthened accordingly. And second demand is that reports indicate that the individual who attempted to attack Dr. Farooq Abdullah has been booked by the police under Section 307 charge However, it has been pointed out that for even minor matters the Union Government often invokes strict laws such as the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act

(UAPA) or the National Security Act (NSA). Therefore, the question arises as to why stringent provisions like UAPA or NSA have not been considered in this serious case. An appeal has been made to the Central Government of India and the Lieutenant Governor of J&K to take strict action against the accused so that such incidents are not repeated in the future.

All Sikh organizations in Jammu & Kashmir have strongly condemned this act and have expressed their full support and solidarity with Dr. Farooq Abdullah and with National Conference. They have assured that they stand firmly with him and will continue to support the cause of peace and unity.

Along that former President of the Delhi Gurdwara Management Committee and senior Akali leader Manjit Singh GK has also strongly condemned the murderous attack on Dr. Farooq Abdullah. In his statement, Manjit Singh GK said that the entire nation knows that Sheikh Abdullah, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, and Omar Abdullah have always stood up for the rights of the people of Kashmir. He added that they have consistently raised their voice not only for Kashmiris but also for minorities and marginalized communities. He said we remember when the Dharam Yudh Morcha was launched for the rights of Punjab, Farooq Abdullah had met Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale in support of the cause. Due to this meeting, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi later dismissed Farooq Abdullah’s government. Manjit Singh GK also stated that Dr. Farooq Abdullah and his family have always stood firmly with Sikhs and other minority communities. Condemning the attack in the strongest possible words, he said that such incidents are highly unfortunate and unacceptable.
