NEW DELHI, Aug 30: Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has stepped up discussions with global business leaders during her US visit, seeking to encourage greater investment and expansion by international companies in India.
Sitharaman met senior executives of Mondelez International and Hyatt in Chicago on August 29 as part of efforts to strengthen commercial engagement and highlight opportunities in the Indian market.
The discussions covered the companies’ existing presence in India as well as prospects for expanding their operations and investments. The meetings are part of the government’s broader effort to attract foreign capital and deepen economic ties with major global corporations.
Engagement with multinational companies has gained importance as India seeks to expand manufacturing, services and consumption-led growth while strengthening its position as an investment destination.
For international businesses, India’s large consumer base and expanding economy continue to offer opportunities across multiple sectors. Government engagement with corporate leaders is also aimed at identifying investment-related challenges and facilitating greater participation by overseas companies.
Sitharaman’s meetings with executives from the food and beverage as well as hospitality sectors underline the diversity of India’s investment opportunities. Both sectors have significant links with domestic consumption, tourism, employment and services.
The Finance Minister’s outreach comes during her US visit for wider economic and financial engagements. Discussions with business leaders are expected to complement government efforts to build stronger international investment partnerships.
The Centre has consistently sought to position India as an attractive destination for foreign direct investment and encourage multinational corporations to increase their operational footprint in the country.
The latest meetings reflect that continuing approach, with investment promotion and stronger corporate ties remaining important components of India’s economic engagement with global businesses.
