SMVDU Vice-Chancellor and Industry Leaders Address Future of VLSI at "Chip Champs-I" Workshop

Katra, 27-11-2024: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University’s School of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) recently organized a two-day workshop titled “Chip Champs-I,” focusing on advanced VLSI technologies and semiconductor design. The event aimed to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to thrive in the rapidly growing semiconductor industry. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Pragati Kumar inaugurated the workshop, emphasizing the significance of skill development in VLSI and the vast opportunities this field presents. He encouraged students to make the most of such initiatives to stay competitive in a globalized industry.

Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. K.R. Jha, praised the organizers for creating a platform that bridges the gap between academic learning and industry needs, helping students gain practical insights into this highly technical domain. The workshop featured sessions by experts, including an engaging talk by Prof. Rohit Y. Sharma from IIT Ropar, who discussed the latest trends in advanced VLSI technologies. His session offered participants an in-depth understanding of innovative developments and their practical applications in the semiconductor field.

Dr. Vikram Singh delivered a detailed lecture on Analog VLSI Design, focusing on both foundational concepts and hands-on applications in analog circuit design. Adding a motivational aspect to the event, SMVDU alumnus Swaraj Srivastava, currently working at Qualcomm, participated in an online interactive session. He shared his professional journey, offering practical advice and inspiring students to pursue their goals in the competitive VLSI industry.

The workshop was efficiently coordinated by Dr. Anil Kumar Bhardwaj and Dr. Vikram Singh, with support from co-coordinators Dr. Vijay Kumar Sharma and Dr. Purnima Hazra. Organizing Secretary Dr. Manish Sabraj ensured the seamless execution of the event, supported by a committed team of student volunteers, including Sonu Kumar, Yaswant, and Harsh Pratap. Their efforts in managing logistics and facilitating interactions between speakers and participants were widely appreciated by both the faculty and attendees.

The event concluded with high levels of participation and enthusiasm, leaving attendees inspired and equipped with industry-relevant knowledge. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Pragati Kumar thanked the speakers, organizers, and volunteers for their contributions, expressing confidence that initiatives like this would solidify SMVDU’s reputation as a center of innovation and technical excellence.
