Snowfall Hits Kashmir, Srinagar–Jammu Highway Closed

Hundreds of vehicles remain stranded as snow clearance continues, while flight operations at Srinagar airport remain unaffected.

SRINAGAR, Jan 25: The Srinagar–Jammu national highway continued to remain closed for the third consecutive day on Sunday after fresh snowfall affected several parts of Kashmir, including the summer capital Srinagar, officials said.

Traffic movement on the 270-kilometre stretch has been suspended since Friday, leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded on both sides of the highway following heavy snow accumulation.

A senior traffic police official said restoration efforts were underway but progress remained slow due to ongoing snowfall in areas around the highway, particularly in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

Srinagar city witnessed light snowfall during the early morning hours, adding to the prevailing cold conditions across the Valley.

Despite the weather, air connectivity remained normal. Officials at the Airport Authority of India confirmed that flight operations at Srinagar International Airport were proceeding as scheduled, with three flights having already landed during the day.
