JAMMU, Sep 23: A soldier died on Tuesday after sustaining a gunshot wound from his service rifle outside a military hospital in Udhampur district, Jammu and Kashmir, officials confirmed.
The incident occurred when the soldier, serving as a driver, was waiting in a parked medicine supply vehicle in the town. Colleagues who heard the gunfire rushed to the scene and found him lying in a pool of blood. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital but was declared brought dead.
Police have initiated inquest proceedings to determine whether the fatal shot was accidental or a case of suicide. Authorities are examining all circumstances surrounding the incident to ascertain the cause of the soldier’s death.
