Sonam Kapoor Commemorates 10 Years of ‘Neerja,’ Reflects on Iconic Role as Neerja Bhanot

Actress shares nostalgic throwback as the film that defined her career marks a decade since release.

Mumbai, February 19, 2026: Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor marked the 10th anniversary of her acclaimed film ‘Neerja’, sharing a heartfelt throwback on Instagram Stories with the caption: “10 years of Neerja.” The film, based on the real-life heroics of Neerja Bhanot, tells the story of the brave flight attendant who sacrificed her life to save 359 passengers during the 1986 hijacking of Pan Am Flight 73 in Karachi.

Portraying Neerja Bhanot was a career-defining moment for Sonam Kapoor, earning widespread critical acclaim and cementing her place in Bollywood. Directed by Ram Madhvani, the film featured a strong supporting cast including Shabana Azmi, Jim Sarbh, Shekhar Ravjiani, Yogendra Tiku, and Kavi Shastri. It went on to win Best Feature Film in Hindi and a Special Mention at the 64th National Film Awards.

Sonam Kapoor has since appeared in notable films like ‘I Hate Luv Storys’, ‘Raanjhanaa’, ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’, ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’, ‘Sanju’, ‘Veere Di Wedding’, and most recently, ‘Blind’ in 2023. Meanwhile, a planned adaptation of Anuja Chauhan’s ‘Battle for Bittora’, produced by her sister Rhea Kapoor, remains in development.
