20-09-2023 : Sonia Gandhi, the Chief of the Congress Parliamentary Party, expressed her party’s unwavering support for the Women’s Reservation Bill and called for its immediate implementation, emphasizing the need to include provisions for the representation of Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs).
Taking the lead in initiating the debate from the opposition’s perspective within the Lok Sabha, Gandhi declared, “I stand here in support of Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam.” She underscored the urgency of implementing the Women’s Reservation Bill, stating that any delay in doing so would constitute a grave injustice to the women of India.
Gandhi firmly asserted that the swift enactment of the Women’s Reservation Bill, coupled with the removal of all hindrances, is not just essential but entirely feasible. She emphasized the importance of providing women, as well as marginalized communities, with a platform for political representation through this legislation.
