Sonia Gandhi Urges PM Modi for Clarity on Agenda in Letter Regarding Upcoming Special Parliament Session

Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi's Letter to PM Modi Highlights Concerns Over Unilateral Special Session

06-09-2023 : Sonia Gandhi, the Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party, has taken a proactive stance by addressing a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in which she requested a comprehensive outline of the government’s plans for the forthcoming special session of Parliament. In her communication, Sonia Gandhi expressed her concern that this special session had been convened without prior consultation with other opposition parties, highlighting the lack of transparency in its formation.

The letter underscores the fact that the Prime Minister has summoned a five-day special session of Parliament, set to commence on September 18, 2023, with no prior discussions held with representatives of various political parties. Sonia Gandhi stressed the absence of any clear agenda for this session, stating that the opposition has been kept in the dark regarding the topics and issues that will be addressed.

Furthermore, Sonia Gandhi raised concerns about the information received so far, noting that the entire five-day session has apparently been earmarked solely for government-related matters. Despite this, she expressed the Congress party’s eagerness to participate actively in the special session, as it presents a unique opportunity to address pressing public concerns and issues of national importance.

In an effort to facilitate meaningful discussions, Sonia Gandhi outlined nine key topics in her letter, including subjects like inflation, the need for a caste census, and the demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) investigation into matters related to the Adani Group. She emphasized her hope that the appropriate time and provisions would be allocated to enable comprehensive debates and discussions on these crucial matters.

The special session of Parliament is scheduled to take place from September 18 to 22, consisting of five distinct sittings. Both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha have formally announced the dates for this unique parliamentary event.
