JAMMU, Jan 18: The Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather, on Saturday nominated eight Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) as members of the House’s Business Advisory Committee (BAC).

According to an official order issued by the Assembly Secretariat, the nominated members represent a broad political spectrum, reflecting the committee’s role in ensuring smooth conduct of legislative business and fostering coordination among different parties.

The members nominated to the BAC include Sunil Sharma, BJP MLA from the Paddar-Nagseni Assembly constituency, who is also the Leader of Opposition in the UT Assembly. Other members include senior National Conference legislators Ali Mohammad Sagar and Mubarak Gul, CPI(M) MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, Congress MLA GA Mir, Peoples Conference legislator Sajad Gani Lone, PDP MLA Mir Mohammad Fayaz, and Independent legislator Choudhary Mohammad Akram.

The Business Advisory Committee plays a crucial role in the functioning of the Assembly by recommending the time schedule for legislative business, allocation of time for debates, and facilitating consensus among political parties on procedural matters. The nomination of experienced and senior legislators from across party lines is expected to contribute to effective parliamentary management during the forthcoming sessions.

The decision comes ahead of the upcoming Assembly session and is seen as an important step towards ensuring orderly and productive proceedings in the House.
