SRH Hit by Fresh Setback as Star All Rounder Ruled Out After Pat Cummins Injury Blow

Injury setbacks pile up for franchises as Cummins remains unavailable and multiple overseas stars miss season

Hyderabad, Mar 20 : Sunrisers Hyderabad have been dealt a significant setback ahead of IPL 2026, with Australian all rounder Jack Edwards ruled out for the entire tournament due to injury. The 25 year old, who was picked up for ₹3 crore in the latest auction, will miss his debut season in the league. Details regarding the nature of his injury have not been made public.

Edwards had earned his contract following an impressive run with Australia A, showcasing his all-round capabilities in a one day series against India A. Earlier this year, he also broke into the senior T20 setup, making his international debut against Pakistan in Lahore under the leadership of Travis Head.

The injury concerns extend beyond Hyderabad, with several teams losing key overseas players. Chennai Super Kings will be without Australian pacer Nathan Ellis, who is recovering from a hamstring issue, while Rajasthan Royals have lost England’s Sam Curran due to a groin injury.

SRH’s challenges are compounded by the absence of their regular captain Pat Cummins, who is still recovering from a back problem. In his absence, wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan is set to lead the side in the opening phase of the tournament, with Abhishek Sharma named as vice captain.

The Hyderabad based franchise will open its campaign against defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru on March 28 in Bengaluru. They will then travel to face Kolkata Knight Riders on April 2 before returning home for their first match in front of local fans against Lucknow Super Giants on April 5.

With multiple injuries disrupting squad balance, SRH will be looking to regroup quickly as they aim to remain competitive in the early stages of the season.
