SRINAGAR, Jul 4: In a major relief for passengers and airlines, Srinagar Airport on Saturday announced that it has withdrawn the earlier proposal for full runway closure on Mondays and Tuesdays, confirming that flight operations will continue on all days this year.
In an operational update shared on X, the airport authorities said there will be no complete airfield shutdown at Srinagar Airport, and regular flight services will remain operational throughout the week. The airport said operational and watch hours will continue from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, ensuring that daytime flight movements remain unaffected.
The announcement comes after concerns over the previously proposed Notice to Airmen (NOTAM), which had envisaged full runway closure on two days a week to facilitate maintenance work. With the withdrawal of that proposal, passengers travelling to and from the Kashmir Valley can now expect uninterrupted daily operations at the airport.
“Passengers are advised that there will be no full airfield closure at Srinagar Airport this year. Airport operations will continue on all days with operational/watch hours from 0800 hrs to 1700 hrs. Night closures for runway maintenance will continue until October 2026,” the airport said in its official communication.
Airport authorities clarified that while the plan for full daytime closure has been dropped, night-time runway maintenance work will continue until October 2026. These night closures are part of ongoing infrastructure upkeep and are not expected to affect regular daytime flight schedules.
The airport further stated that the earlier proposed NOTAM regarding the complete closure of the runway on Mondays and Tuesdays has now been formally withdrawn. This means airlines can continue operating flights on all days, though they may revise or update schedules in line with the existing operational timings of the airport.
The decision is expected to provide significant convenience to travellers, especially during the busy tourism and pilgrimage season in Jammu and Kashmir, when Srinagar Airport handles a high volume of passenger traffic. The airport serves as a vital air link for the Valley and remains one of the busiest transport hubs in the region during summer months.
Passengers have been advised to stay updated on their flight schedules by checking directly with their respective airlines before heading to the airport. Authorities also urged travellers to rely only on official communication channels for accurate and verified information related to flights, operational timings and any changes in services.
The withdrawal of the proposed closure is likely to come as a relief not only to tourists and local passengers but also to airlines operating in and out of Srinagar, as a two-day weekly closure could have disrupted schedules, reduced flight availability and affected connectivity during a peak travel period.
With this latest clarification, Srinagar Airport has assured travellers that flight operations will remain functional every day, while essential runway maintenance will be carried out during the night to minimise inconvenience and maintain operational efficiency.
