Srinagar, Oct 10: The Srinagar Police on Friday carried out coordinated raids at multiple locations across the city, targeting residences of overground workers (OGWs) and associates of proscribed terrorist organizations.
According to a police spokesperson, the operations were conducted as part of ongoing investigations under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The searches focused on individuals suspected of facilitating, aiding, or abetting terror-related activities.
The raids were carried out at residences of 21 individuals, including Najeeb Sakib Dar of Malabagh Ellahibagh, Owais Muneer Bhat of Alamadar Colony Dangarpora, Danish Ayoub Badoo of Sazgaripora Hawal, Zahid Rashid Ganie of Methan, and others across Dangerpora, Hazratbal, and Lal Bazar. Some of the individuals are currently under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
Operations were executed under legal procedures, with Executive Magistrates and independent witnesses present, and senior police officers supervising the searches. The primary objective was to seize incriminating materials such as documents, digital devices, and other evidence critical to ongoing investigations.
These raids are part of a broader intelligence-gathering effort aimed at preempting potential terror activities and safeguarding public safety and national security.
Srinagar Police emphasized that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found abetting or supporting unlawful or violent activities. “Our mission remains to ensure peace, stability, and public order in the city,” the statement read.
