Srinagar, Oct 8: The Jammu and Kashmir Police’s State Investigation Agency (SIA) on Wednesday conducted searches at multiple locations across the Kashmir Valley as part of its ongoing investigation into a case registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), officials said.
The SIA teams carried out raids in the Anantnag, Kulgam, and Baramulla districts. In north Kashmir, operations were conducted in the Rafiabad and Sopore areas of Baramulla, while in south Kashmir, searches took place in Padapora Badasgam (Anantnag) and Kalam area (Kulgam).
Officials confirmed that incriminating documents were seized during the searches, which form part of the ongoing investigation under the stringent UAPA provisions.
Under the UAPA, the SIA can file a chargesheet within 180 days of an arrest, with the period extendable upon informing the court. The act carries severe penalties, including life imprisonment or the death sentence in extreme cases.
Authorities have emphasized that the raids are part of a systematic probe to ensure accountability and enforcement of the law in connection with the registered case.
