State Taxes Department imposes Rs 2.25 lakh penalty on Goods Carrier

 

RAJOURI OCTOBER 23: State Taxes Department has imposed a Rs 2.25 lakh penalty on a Goods carrier for not possessing an e-bill.

As per the department, State taxes officer (STO), Enforcement wing Rajouri-Poonch range, Ashiq Rafiq Malik, during routine checking,  intercepted a vehicle bearing number JK02AD 9584 carrying TMT bars without an e-way bill. The vehicle was detained and tax and penalty to the tune of Rs 2,25,180 were imposed on a single-vehicle.

The checking was carried out by the State Taxes Officer, Enforcement wing Rajouri-Poonch range under the instructions of Commissioner, State taxes, P.K. Bhat and under the supervision of Additional Commissioner, State Taxes (Administration and Enforcement), Rifat Kohli and under the close supervision of DC enforcement, Samba, Sanjay Gupta.

Several other Vehicles carrying goods were also intercepted at Narian, Rajouri for physical verification, scrutiny of tax invoices, and electronic way (e-way) bills.

As per the STO, the Department would intensify the further the checking against the goods Carriers carrying goods towards Rajouri-Poonch without proper tax invoices, e-way bills, etc and penalized the vehicles under section 129 of CGST Act for evading tax so as to ensure that the genuine traders who fulfill/ comply with all the GST rules are not hit by such malpractices.

The department has imposed a Rs 3.69 lakh penalty on the violators in the month of September 2020.

The inspection team included Inspector, Vikas Sharma, and other officials of the department.
