SRINAGAR, Jan 5: A cold wave persisted across Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh on Monday, with sub-zero minimum temperatures recorded at several locations, particularly in the Kashmir Valley.
In Kashmir, Srinagar recorded a minimum of -3.6°C, while Qazigund registered -2.0°C and Pahalgam fell to -4.8°C. Gulmarg, the popular ski resort, remained the coldest at -8.8°C, according to independent weather channel Kashmir Weather.
Other freezing night temperatures were recorded at Kupwara (-1.8°C), Kokernag (-1.2°C), Pampore (-2.5°C), Awantipora (-3.2°C), Budgam (-3.5°C), Anantnag (-3.2°C), Bandipora (-1.3°C), Pulwama (-4.2°C), Shopian (-5.6°C), and Zethan Rafiabad (-3.5°C). Baramulla recorded a relatively higher minimum of -0.7°C. Data for Kulgam, Ganderbal, and Sonamarg was unavailable.
Jammu region temperatures remain higher
In the Jammu region, temperatures were comparatively higher. Jammu city recorded 8.7°C, and Jammu Airport 11.1°C. Banihal dropped to -1.3°C, Bhaderwah -2.1°C, Batote 2.1°C, Ramban 2.7°C, Katra 5.6°C, Kathua 8.4°C, Udhampur 6.0°C, Rajouri 1.6°C, Kishtwar 2.3°C, Reasi 8.3°C, and Doda 2.7°C. Data for Samba and Poonch was not reported.
Intense cold in Ladakh
The Ladakh region continued to reel under intense cold. Leh recorded a minimum of -9.6°C, Kargil -8.4°C, and Nubra Valley -7.5°C.
The persistent cold wave has kept much of the region under freezing night temperatures, particularly across the Kashmir Valley and Ladakh, while the Jammu plains experienced relatively milder conditions.
