Mumbai, Jan 30 : Sunaina Roshan, sister of Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan, has spoken openly about her long battle with addiction in a candid social media video, describing how acknowledging the problem became the most transformative moment of her life.
In the video, Sunaina reflected on her struggles with alcohol, sweets and junk food, calling acceptance the first and most difficult step toward recovery. She said admitting to herself that something was wrong fundamentally altered her path forward.
‘Addiction isn’t always obvious’
Sunaina explained that addiction can often exist in subtle, socially accepted forms, making it harder to recognise. She noted that dependence is not limited to substances alone, but can extend to everyday behaviours and coping mechanisms.
Sharing her own experience, she revealed that her struggle went beyond alcohol and also involved an unhealthy relationship with food. She described the journey as challenging, but one that forced her to confront long ignored patterns.
Recovery through support and self awareness
According to Sunaina, progress became possible only after developing the right mindset and leaning on a strong support system. She emphasised that speaking openly about her struggles played a key role in healing.
She also stressed that addiction should never define a person’s identity, but confronting it is essential for change. Recovery, she said, is not about perfection, but about steady progress.
A message of hope
Encouraging others facing similar challenges, Sunaina urged people not to isolate themselves and to seek help when needed. She highlighted the importance of patience, self compassion and taking recovery one step at a time.
Sunaina Roshan, daughter of filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, has previously spoken about her health struggles. Over the years, she has battled serious medical conditions, including cancer and a brain related illness, and has continued to share her journey with resilience and openness.
