Sunday Theatre sparkles as Natrang presents Rajindra Kumar Sharma’s comedy play ‘Chor’

Jammu, April 12, 2026: Natrang presented a scintillating performance of the Hindi comedy play ‘Chor’, written by Rajindra Kumar Sharma and directed by Neeraj Kant, at Natrang Studio Theatre under its ongoing Sunday Theatre Series. Rich in situational humour and unexpected twists, the play kept the audience thoroughly entertained, earning applause at several punchlines and dramatic moments.

The play revolves around a cleverly crafted domestic incident, presented in a highly theatrical and engaging manner. The story begins with Naresh, who is fast asleep in his room in the middle of the night. His sleep is abruptly disturbed by an unusual noise, and to his utter shock, he finds a young woman in the guise of a thief standing before him. Armed with what appears to be a gun, she threatens him and demands money. Terrified and confused, Naresh pleads for mercy, but the intruder remains firm and portrays herself as a hardened criminal.

In a sudden turn of events, Naresh gathers courage and manages to snatch the gun from her. Attempting to assert control, he tries to scare her, only to discover that the gun is fake. This revelation shifts the dynamics of the situation instantly. The girl, unfazed, adopts a new tactic and begins blackmailing him. She threatens to raise an alarm and falsely accuse him of molestation if he refuses to comply with her demands.

As tensions rise, the commotion attracts the attention of Naresh’s wife and brother-in-law, who enter the room and react with shock and displeasure at the scene unfolding before them. Naresh, now completely helpless and cornered, finally gives in to the pressure and expresses his inability to deal with the situation any further.

However, just when the situation appears to have reached its peak, the narrative takes a humorous and unexpected twist. It is revealed that the so-called ‘lady thief’ is, in fact, Naresh’s sister-in-law, who had staged the entire episode to make her first meeting with him dramatic and unforgettable.

The play featured lively performances by Natrang actors Mehak Chib, Aadesh Dhar, Sheetal Sen, and Nikshya Mahajan, who effectively brought out the comic essence of the script. The lighting design by Neeraj Kant added depth to the performance, while the presentations were ably managed by Priyal Ashok Gupta.
