Sunjay Kapur Estate Dispute: Priya Kapur Sues Sister-in-Law Mandhira for ₹20 Crore Over Podcast Comments

Priya Kapur Files ₹20 Crore Defamation Suit Against Sister in Law Mandhira Over Podcast Remarks

Mumbai, Feb 12 : In the ongoing Kapur family saga, Priya Sachdev Kapur, widow of industrialist Sunjay Kapur, has escalated her legal battle by filing a ₹20 crore defamation suit against her sister-in-law, Mandhira Kapur Smith. The Delhi High Court papers allege that Mandhira’s comments on a popular podcast, along with content shared on social media and other platforms, have caused Priya “serious harm to reputation” and significant mental anguish. Podcast host Pooja Chaudhri has also been named as a defendant.

Priya’s petition seeks an immediate removal of all existing posts, podcasts, and online content she claims are defamatory, and restraining Mandhira and the podcaster from making further statements about her.

The legal action follows the death of Sunjay Kapur in London in June 2025. Controversy erupted after Sunjay’s ex-wife, Karisma Kapoor, challenged Priya’s will, alleging forgery and claiming that her children, Kiaan Raj and Samara, were wrongfully excluded from inheritance. During this period, Mandhira’s podcast statements allegedly fueled Priya’s claims of defamation, leading to both civil and criminal complaints.

Priya, who married Sunjay Kapur in 2017 and shares a son with him, is now entangled in multiple legal battles. Besides defending herself against inheritance-related claims from Sunjay’s children, she is also navigating disputes involving Sunjay’s mother, Rani Kapur, highlighting a multi-generational family feud.
