Supreme Court Directs High Courts to Form Grievance Redressal Committee for Advocates

20-04-2023 : On Thursday, the Supreme Court directed all high courts to establish a Grievance Redressal Committee, headed by the Chief Justice and composed of two other senior judges, one from the service and one from the Bar, as well as representatives from the Advocate General, Bar Council of the State, and High Court Bar Association. The purpose of the committee will be to address the legitimate concerns of advocates and bar associations regarding procedural changes, listing of matters, and misbehavior by lower judiciary members.

The court emphasized that no member of the Bar can go on strike or abstain from work, but instead, genuine grievances should be addressed through appropriate forums. The Bar Council of India had previously requested the formation of Grievance Redressal Committees to address concerns at different levels, including district and taluka courts.
