Supreme Court of India will issue ruling on Challenging assembly’s delimitation

Supreme Court to Pronounce Judgment on J&K Delimitation Challenge

12-2-2023: On a petition challenging the delimitation of assembly and parliamentary constituencies in Jammu & Kashmir, the Supreme Court of India will pronounce  judgment tomorrow.
Two citizens of Srinagar submitted a case, and the nation’s highest supreme court will decide on it.

The petitioners argued that Article 170 of the Indian Constitution states that the next delimitation exercise must take place only after 2026 and that the delimitation is therefore both arbitrary and unconstitutional.
They have argued that Sections 9(1)(b) of the Representation of Peoples Act, 1950, and Section 11(1)(b) of the Delimitation Act, 2022, do not grant the Delimitation Commission the authority necessary to carry out the process. #SupremeCourtJudgement #JammuKashmirDelimitation #ConstitutionalChallenge #Article170 #CitizenPetitioners
