New Delhi, 19-03-2024 : The Supreme Court has taken a significant step in the ongoing Patanjali advertising case, summoning Yoga guru Ramdev and Patanjali Ayurved Managing Director Acharya Balkrishna to personally appear before it.
This development stems from contempt proceedings related to the advertising of Patanjali’s products and their medicinal efficacy. Justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah presiding over the bench expressed strong disapproval at the failure of the company and Balkrishna to respond to earlier notices from the court. These notices were issued to inquire why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against them for potentially violating the court’s previous undertakings. Additionally, the bench issued a notice to Ramdev, calling on him to justify why contempt proceedings should not commence against him as well. The apex court’s attention to this matter comes in response to a plea filed by the Indian Medical Association (IMA), which alleges a smear campaign by Ramdev against the vaccination drive and modern medicines.
