Supreme Court’s Verdict on Electoral Bonds: Kharge Hails Decision as Crucial Step Against Modi Government’s Alleged Corruption

New Delhi, 11-03-2024 : Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge hailed the Supreme Court’s decision as a crucial step in uncovering the alleged corruption within the Modi government, following the dismissal of the State Bank of India’s request for additional time to reveal donor details regarding electoral bonds. Kharge expressed his approval of the Court’s ruling, emphasizing that the disclosure of electoral bond donor information marks the initial stride towards exposing the purported misconduct of the ruling administration.

In a tweet, Kharge asserted, “After SBI asked for four-and-a-half months to publish electoral bonds, it became clear that the Modi government is making every possible effort to cover up its dark deeds.” He further highlighted the significance of the Supreme Court’s intervention, suggesting that the disclosure of donor lists linked to the BJP through electoral bonds will shed light on alleged corruption, scams, and questionable transactions carried out by the government.

Kharge urged the Supreme Court to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to correlate the details of electoral bond purchases with the information regarding their encashment by political parties. “Even now the country will not know for which contracts the selected capitalist fund holders of BJP were giving donations to the Modi government, for that the Honorable Supreme Court should give appropriate instructions,” Kharge stated. He also referenced media reports alleging that the BJP obtained donations through coercive means such as conducting enforcement agency raids.

The Congress President highlighted the significance of the Supreme Court’s decision as a triumph for transparency, accountability, and fairness in democracy.

On Monday, the Constitutional bench of the Supreme Court dismissed SBI’s plea for additional time to disclose details regarding the purchase of electoral bonds, directing the bank to release the information by the close of business hours on Tuesday.
