Swami Vivekananda a Powerful Inspiration for India’s Youth, Says PM Modi

On Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urges young Indians to draw strength, confidence and purpose from the spiritual leader’s ideals.

India, Jan 12 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday paid tributes to Swami Vivekananda on his birth anniversary, observed as National Youth Day, describing the revered monk as a powerful source of inspiration for India’s youth and a guiding force for the nation’s future.

In a message posted on X, PM Modi said Swami Vivekananda’s life and teachings continue to energise India’s journey towards a Viksit Bharat and instil confidence among younger generations.

“My respectful tribute to Swami Vivekananda, the powerful source of inspiration for India’s youth power, on his birth anniversary,” the Prime Minister wrote. “His personality and works continuously infuse new energy into the resolve for a Viksit Bharat. May this divine occasion of National Youth Day bring new strength and self-confidence to all, especially our young companions.”

January 12 was declared National Youth Day in 1984 to honour Swami Vivekananda and to inspire young Indians by connecting them with his ideals, while encouraging their active participation in nation-building.

In a video message, PM Modi said Swami Vivekananda’s contributions transcend time and geography, continuing to guide generations.

“What Swami Vivekananda gave to the country and society is beyond time and place. He believed that fearless, selfless, pure-hearted, courageous and ambitious youth form the foundation of a nation’s future,” the Prime Minister said, adding that the monk had unwavering faith in the power of young people.

Calling upon today’s youth to live up to that trust, PM Modi said India’s growing global stature is driven by the energy and enthusiasm of its younger population across villages, towns and cities. He extended his best wishes to the youth on National Youth Day.

Swami Vivekananda was born on January 12, 1863, in Kolkata. He is widely credited with introducing Indian philosophies such as Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world.

His landmark speech at the 1893 World’s Parliament of Religions in Chicago brought global attention to Indian spiritual thought and promoted interfaith harmony. Vivekananda also championed nationalism, social reform and service to humanity, and founded the Ramakrishna Mission to advance education and social service.
