LOS ANGELES, Oct 23: Grammy winning singer Lizzo has been sued by Georgia-based GRC Trust over an alleged uncleared sample used in her unreleased track. Court documents filed in California claim that Lizzo’s August social media clip, in which she performed part of a song identified as ‘I’m Goin’ In Till October’, included elements from “Win or Lose (We Tried)” without permission.
In the clip, Lizzo also joked about actress Sydney Sweeney, referencing her American Eagle campaign with the line, “I got good jeans like I’m Sydney.” While humorous, the post triggered the legal action.
The lawsuit names Lizzo and her label Atlantic Records, alleging they profited from the unauthorized sample. GRC Trust demands profits, damages, and legal fees, claiming private resolution attempts failed.
This is not the first lawsuit by GRC Trust, which recently filed a similar case against Kanye West and collaborators for unauthorized sampling. Lizzo, known for hits like ‘About Damn Time’ and ‘Truth Hurts’, has not publicly commented on the complaint.
