T20 World Cup 2026: India Miss One Milestone, Eye Three Historic Firsts

Men in Blue Eye Third Title, Back to Back Triumph and Potential Home Glory

India, Feb 25 : India’s defeat to South Africa on February 22 ended their bid to register the most wins in a single edition of the T20 World Cup. Having secured eight victories during their 2024 title winning campaign, they were in contention to surpass that tally in 2026 before the setback dashed those hopes.

Despite missing out on that milestone, India remain firmly in the race for a historic campaign. With Super 8 fixtures against Zimbabwe on February 26 and West Indies on March 1, the Men in Blue still control their path to the knockout stage.

A triumph this year would hand India an unprecedented third T20 World Cup crown, a feat no nation has achieved so far. Additionally, lifting the trophy again would make them the first team to defend the title successfully after their 2024 victory.

There is also the prospect of becoming the first host nation to win the tournament, should the final be held on Indian soil and the team go all the way.
