NEW DELHI, Feb 28 : Taapsee Pannu has revealed that she has missed out on projects because certain male actors were unwilling to work with her, while also addressing rumours branding her as “difficult.”
In a recent interview, the actor admitted that she often learns about such decisions indirectly. She explained that in some cases, conversations about casting never even reach her because others have already made up their minds. According to her, it is not uncommon in the industry for leading men to have a significant say in selecting their co stars.
Taapsee pointed out that unless a filmmaker holds strong influence, casting choices in hero centric films are frequently driven by the male lead. Reflecting on her collaboration in Dunki, she shared that she was surprised to be chosen opposite Shah Rukh Khan. She credited director Rajkumar Hirani for firmly backing her, noting that his conviction ensured she secured the role despite not being part of the typical casting circle associated with such big-budget projects.
Addressing perceptions about her professional conduct, the actor said she struggles to understand claims that she is hard to collaborate with. She highlighted that several filmmakers have worked with her more than once, arguing that repeat partnerships contradict the notion of being troublesome on set. Taapsee suggested that such assumptions may stem from people who have never worked with her and may not know her personally, adding that she prefers letting her performances speak for themselves rather than actively networking.
On the professional front, her latest release, Assi, directed by Anubhav Sinha, is currently playing in cinemas.
