Chennai, Feb. 24 : The Ministry of Home Affairs has sanctioned an initial deployment of 50 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) to Tamil Nadu as part of preparatory security arrangements for the 2026 Assembly elections.
Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik said the first batch of personnel is scheduled to arrive on March 10, 2026. The deployment is aimed at area domination and confidence-building exercises ahead of the electoral process.
According to an official statement from the Chief Electoral Officer’s office, the central forces have been allotted to strengthen security preparedness in connection with the General Elections to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.
The polls, expected in April 2026, will elect all 234 members of the state Assembly. Simultaneously, elections are likely to be held for the Legislative Assembly in the Union Territory of Puducherry.
