Chennai, Apr 24 — Following the successful conclusion of polling for the Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu on April 23, election authorities have ensured the safe transfer of all voting equipment to designated storage facilities. Sealed Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), along with Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) units and related election materials, have been securely moved to strong rooms set up at official counting centres statewide.
The transportation process was carried out under strict surveillance, with robust security provided by police and armed personnel. The equipment has been distributed across 62 counting centres, where votes from all 234 Assembly constituencies will be tallied on May 4.
Officials from the Election Commission of India confirmed that comprehensive, multi-tier security arrangements have been implemented at each location. These include continuous monitoring and restricted access protocols to ensure the integrity of the stored machines.
The strong rooms are under 24/7 guard, with personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces, Tamil Nadu Special Police, and local law enforcement working in coordination. This layered security framework is designed to prevent any unauthorized access and maintain transparency in the electoral process.
Authorities have emphasized that all necessary precautions are in place to safeguard the polling equipment until counting day, reinforcing public confidence in the fairness and credibility of the election process.
