Baramulla, Feb 6: The Tangmarg Municipal Committee in North Kashmir has requested the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Gulmarg to intervene following allegations of misconduct by municipal officials during a routine market inspection.
The incident occurred during an anti-encroachment drive aimed at regulating street vendors near the Tangmarg toll post. Officials noted that a large number of vendors selling caps, gloves, and socks were operating on the roadside, causing traffic congestion and an accumulation of plastic waste. During the drive, municipal staff seized certain vendor items in accordance with standard procedures.
However, a video capturing an alleged assault on a vendor by a municipal employee surfaced on social media, sparking public controversy. The Municipal Committee identified the official seen in the footage and attached the details in its report.
An enquiry committee has been constituted to verify the facts and submit a detailed report within three days. The Municipal Committee has urged the SDM to oversee the matter to ensure transparency and appropriate action based on the committee’s findings.
Authorities have stated that further steps will be decided after the enquiry report is reviewed by the competent officials.
