Tariq Hameed Karra Leads Protest in Srinagar, Urges Centre to Fulfill Statehood Commitment

J&K Statehood Demand Gains Momentum as PCC Rallies in Srinagar

Srinagar, Nov 25: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) staged a protest demonstration at its Srinagar headquarters on Maulana Azad Road, reiterating the demand for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. The demonstration, led by PCC President Tariq Hameed Karra, drew Congress leaders and workers who voiced their grievances over the revocation of constitutional guarantees in 2019.

Addressing the gathering, Karra emphasized the party’s unwavering stance on the issue. “Our principles have remained consistent — before, during, and after the elections. We firmly stand by our demand to restore the rights and constitutional guarantees that were unjustly taken away in August 2019,” he asserted.

Karra also took the opportunity to remind the Central Government of its commitment to restoring J&K’s statehood, a promise he said remains unfulfilled. “With the Parliament session commencing today, we want to remind the government of its pledge to reinstate statehood to Jammu and Kashmir after elections,” he said, urging immediate action.

Referring to the Supreme Court’s recent directive to the Centre on restoring J&K’s statehood, Karra highlighted the importance of adhering to the apex court’s ruling. “The government must uphold the Supreme Court’s directive and fulfill its constitutional obligation,” he remarked, adding that the delay in statehood restoration was causing prolonged discontent among the people of J&K.

The protest marked yet another instance of the Congress party’s sustained campaign for the restoration of statehood, underscoring its commitment to addressing the grievances of the people and holding the Centre accountable for its promises.
