Tata Group to Invest in EVs, Solar, Hotels and Thermal Power in Uttar Pradesh

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath meets Tata Chairman N Chandrasekaran to discuss expansion plans across energy, electric vehicles, hospitality and IT infrastructure

Lucknow, Dec 16: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday met Tata Group Chairman N Chandrasekaran to discuss the conglomerate’s ongoing and future projects in the state, spanning electric vehicles, energy, hospitality, and industrial development.

Chandrasekaran informed the Chief Minister about Tata Motors’ plans to expand electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing in Uttar Pradesh, including the development of new models and increased production of EV buses. The expansion is expected to strengthen Tata’s presence in the EV sector while generating significant employment opportunities in the state.

The Tata Group is also undertaking large scale energy projects. Tata Power is installing a new 1,900 MW thermal unit at its Bara plant in Prayagraj, comprising three 360 MW units, and is developing two 50 MW solar projects in Prayagraj and Banda. Additionally, solar rooftop initiatives are being promoted to support clean energy generation and reduce carbon emissions, in line with the state government’s sustainable development goals.

On infrastructure, Chandrasekaran highlighted the construction of a new building in Noida aimed at boosting IT and industrial investment. The first phase of construction is expected to be completed by December 2026.

The Tata Group is also expanding its presence in the hospitality sector, with 30 new hotels including prestigious Tata brands such as Taj Selection and Vivanta under construction across major and emerging tourist destinations such as Prayagraj, Ayodhya, Varanasi, Vrindavan, Agra, Kanpur, Lucknow, Bijnor, and Gorakhpur. These projects will increase the state’s luxury hotel capacity from 2,000 rooms to 5,000, enhancing Uttar Pradesh’s standing on the international tourism map. Signature projects include a landmark hotel in Noida and a luxury Taj hotel in Prayagraj.

Chandrasekaran credited the Chief Minister’s vision and efforts for Uttar Pradesh’s growth as a key destination for domestic and international tourism, noting the unprecedented increase in tourist arrivals in recent years.
