Telangana Anthem Lyricist Andesri Passes Away, CM K. Chandrashekar Rao Expresses Condolences

Andhra Pradesh born poet and writer Andesri, famed for penning “Jaya Jayahe Telangana,” dies suddenly; hailed as a cultural icon of Telangana’s statehood movement

Telangana, Nov 10 : Renowned poet and writer Andesri, celebrated for composing the Telangana state anthem Jaya Jayahe Telangana, passed away on Monday at the age of 64. He collapsed at his home and was rushed to Gandhi Hospital, where he breathed his last during treatment, according to family members.

Born Ande Ellanna in 1960 in Nalgonda district, Andesri became a powerful literary voice during the Telangana statehood movement. His anthem emerged as an emotional and cultural rallying cry, later becoming an integral symbol of Telangana’s identity.

Over his career, Andesri received numerous accolades, including an honorary doctorate from Kakatiya University, the Nandi Award in 2006 for the film Ganga, the Academy of Universal Global Peace Doctorate in 2014, and the Dasarathi Sahitya Puraskar and Ravuri Bharadwaja Literary Award in 2015.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy expressed profound grief over Andesri’s passing, calling it an irreplaceable loss to Telugu literature and Telangana’s cultural heritage. He highlighted that Jaya Jayahe Telangana was more than a song—it embodied the collective voice and spirit of the people during the statehood struggle.

Recalling his personal interactions with Andesri, Revanth Reddy noted their collaborations in re-recording the anthem after the formation of the Praja government, calling the poet’s death “the fall of a peak in Telangana literature.” He extended heartfelt condolences to Andesri’s family and admirers.

Final rites are expected to be held soon, with cultural, political, and literary dignitaries likely to pay their respects.
