‘Tere Ishq Mein’ Review: Dhanush-Kriti Romance Wins Hearts Online, But Box Office Faces Challenges in Tamil Nadu

AR Rahman’s music, vibrant Benaras backdrop impress audiences, but Tamil Nadu box office lags behind Hindi version

Mumbai, Nov 28 : Dhanush returns to Bollywood with director Aanand L Rai in the highly anticipated romantic drama ‘Tere Ishk Mein’, reuniting after the 2013 hit Raanjhanaa. Kriti Sanon joins him as the female lead, marking their first on-screen pairing. The film released in India on 28 November 2025, generating excitement among both Hindi and Tamil audiences.

Set in the colorful city of Benaras, ‘Tere Ishk Mein’ tells the emotional love story of Shankar and Mukti, exploring themes of surrender, transformation, and the power of love to heal and hurt. The film’s 2-hour 27 minute runtime is complemented by a celebrated soundtrack from AR Rahman, which has already won praise from fans online.

Early reactions on X (formerly Twitter) highlight positive audience responses, particularly appreciating the Dhanush-Kriti chemistry and Rahman’s music. However, the box office performance tells a mixed story.

All-India gross: ₹5.65 Crore

Total pre-release business (including block bookings): ₹9.26 Crore

Hindi version contribution: ₹5.30 Crore from over 2.1 lakh tickets across 12,500 shows

Tamil version contribution: ₹34.4 Lakhs from 26,000 tickets across 1,000 shows

Trade analysts note that while Hindi-speaking regions have warmly embraced the film, the Tamil Nadu response has been underwhelming. Despite a gap in major Tamil releases, ‘Tere Ishk Mein’ has not fully capitalized on the opportunity to dominate South Indian screens.

Audiences and critics alike continue to celebrate the film’s romance, visuals, and music, leaving hopes high for improved collections in the coming days.
