09-09-2023 : The highly anticipated 18th G20 Leaders’ Summit has finally commenced, bringing together world leaders from across the globe. This momentous event is taking place at the magnificent Bharat Mandapam, nestled within the heart of New Delhi’s Pragati Maidan. The Indian capital is currently playing host to distinguished dignitaries, including the likes of US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, among several others, who have converged for this pivotal two-day summit.
Additionally, more than 14 prominent heads of international organizations have been extended invitations to participate in this summit, which promises a series of impactful bilateral meetings and informative press conferences.
India, as the host nation, is leaving no stone unturned in its efforts to ensure a grand and successful welcome for the attending leaders. Delhi itself has undergone a remarkable transformation in preparation for this historic gathering.
Nonetheless, amidst the pomp and pageantry, the world watches with bated breath to see whether a unified leaders’ declaration will emerge. The looming issue revolves around the sharp divisions between Western powers and the Russia-China alliance regarding the wording of the document concerning the Ukraine conflict.
In a glimmer of optimism for India’s presidency, there seems to be widespread support from nearly all G20 member countries for India’s proposal to include the African Union as a permanent member of this influential bloc.
