Three Held With Explosive Materials in Shopian, Security Forces Launch Investigation

Police seize grenades, plastic explosives and banned outfit posters during a late-night operation in south Kashmir district

Srinagar, June 19: Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have arrested three individuals following the recovery of explosive material and propaganda linked to a banned militant organisation during an operation in Shopian district.

According to officials, the arrests were made during a late night search operation conducted in the Pudsoo area of south Kashmir on Thursday. During the operation, police personnel recovered two hand grenades, approximately 2.5 kilograms of PEK (Plastic Explosive Kirkee), four mobile phones and posters associated with the outlawed Hizbul Mujahideen outfit.

The detained individuals have been identified as Aizaz Ahmad Khanday, Arbaz Ahmad Mir and Nasir Ahmad Dar, all residents of Begama village in Shopian district. Authorities stated that the trio had reportedly been absent from their homes since May 31, prompting concerns among family members and local residents.

Investigators are examining the recovered items to determine their intended use and to establish whether the accused had links with any militant network operating in the region. The seized mobile phones are also being analysed for potential evidence that could assist the ongoing probe.

Officials said the recovery of explosives and militant-related material marks a significant development in efforts to curb unlawful activities and maintain security in south Kashmir. The operation forms part of a broader campaign aimed at identifying and dismantling support structures linked to terrorist organisations.

A case has been registered under relevant provisions of law, and further investigation is underway. Security agencies are exploring all possible angles, including the source of the explosive substances and the circumstances surrounding the possession of the prohibited material.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the Valley and have urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by sharing information about any suspicious activities.

Further details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
