NEW DELHI/KOLKATA: Three Members of Parliament from the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI), who broke away from the Trinamool Congress but have not aligned themselves with the BJP\ led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), are scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi over breakfast on Friday.
The three parliamentarians Abu Taher Khan, Khalilur Rahaman and Yusuf Pathan, all representing Murshidabad in West Bengal held discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday. During the meeting, they highlighted concerns regarding the functioning of SIR tribunals and the reported removal of loudspeakers from mosques in certain areas.
Despite maintaining a distance from the NDA, the MPs have remained politically active and continue to engage with the Centre on issues affecting their constituencies. Their upcoming interaction with the Prime Minister is being viewed as an important political development amid evolving equations in West Bengal.
The trio has so far skipped two meetings convened by the NDA, reinforcing their independent political stance despite their split from the Trinamool Congress.
Along with the three MPs, the remaining 17 NCPI legislators are also expected to attend Friday’s meeting with the Prime Minister. Six Shiv Sena MPs supporting the NDA are likely to participate in the gathering as well.
The meeting is expected to focus on governance issues, regional concerns and the Centre’s engagement with allied and non-aligned political groups. Political observers are closely watching whether the interaction signals any future realignment or remains limited to discussions on public issues.
