TMC MPs Walk Out of Rajya Sabha Over Pending West Bengal Financial Dues

Party alleges Centre owes Rs 2 lakh crore and accuses it of discrimination post-2021 assembly polls.

New Delhi: Trinamool Congress MPs staged a walkout from the Rajya Sabha on Monday, protesting the Centre’s failure to release pending funds to West Bengal. The move came shortly after the House convened, with TMC leaders claiming the Union Budget ignored the state entirely.

Speaking to the media, TMC deputy leader in Rajya Sabha Sagarika Ghose said, “The Centre owes West Bengal Rs 2 lakh crore under various schemes including MGNREGA, Awas Yojana, and PMAY. Ignoring Bengal in the Budget violates the federal structure, Centre-state relations, and the Constitution.”

Rajya Sabha MP Mamata Thakur alleged the central government was acting vindictively following its defeat in the 2021 assembly elections. “Funds for wages, roads, rural infrastructure, and welfare allocations meant for the poor are being stalled. This systematic discrimination is unacceptable,” she said.

Thakur added that the party would continue to protest both inside and outside Parliament until West Bengal receives its rightful dues.
