Tony leads Sikh delegation to Dr. Naseer Hussain, seeks Political Representation, Linguistic Rights

Jammu, April 19: Senior Congress leader and DDC Member Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony, today led a Sikh delegation to meet Dr. Naseer Hussain, All India Congress Committee Incharge (Prabhari) for Jammu and Kashmir and discussed key issues concerning the Sikh community in the Union Territory.

The delegation comprised of S Jitender Singh, Surinder Singh Dutt, Balbir Singh Pinka, Satvinder Singh and others.

During the meeting, Tony emphatically voiced the long-pending demand of the Sikh community for their rightful share in the political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir. He urged the Congress leadership to ensure due representation to the Sikh community in all political and administrative spheres, reaffirming the party’s commitment to social justice and inclusive governance.

Highlighting another significant concern, Tony emphasized the need to strongly raise the issue of Punjabi language in the Rajya Sabha. He pointed out that despite being one of the recognized regional languages, Punjabi continues to be marginalized in official usage and educational frameworks. “It is imperative that the issue of Punjabi language finds a place in the national discourse and is given the respect it deserves,” Tony said.

The delegation also conveyed the growing sentiment among Sikhs regarding their exclusion from vital decision-making processes and sought corrective steps to address this imbalance.

Responding positively to the concerns raised, Dr. Naseer Hussain assured the delegation that their grievances will be taken seriously. He committed to bringing the matter to the attention of the party high command and assured that no injustice will be allowed to prevail against the Sikh community.

Tony, while expressing gratitude to Dr. Hussain, reaffirmed his commitment to being the voice of the Sikh community and to continue fighting for their rights within and outside the legislative platforms.
